The best mineral sunscreens for your face

Don’t get me wrong- I’m a fan of heliotherapy and getting some unprotected sun exposure for vitamin D, done wisely. But I’m not a fan of sunburns, sun damage, or dark spots (age spots). The best solution? Safe, mineral sunscreens for your face!

Choosing the right sunscreen for your face can be tricky, but the good news is that there are a number of excellent mineral-based sunscreens on the market, both tinted and untinted, that are specifically designed to give your skin the protection it needs.

Below, we’ll compare some of the top products to help you choose the best mineral sunscreen for your face. Each of these is completely natural, using only physical sun blockers instead of chemical sunscreens that can bio-accumulate and wreak havoc on your hormones. So, if you want to keep your face looking and feeling healthy and protect it from damaging UV rays, read on!

My Favorite Mineral Sunscreens For Face

Tinted Sunscreen:

If you’re not already using a tinted sunscreen, these little wonders can be a big time-saver in your routine. Many of these are all-in-one moisturizers, so you get your SPF, moisturizer,  makeup primer, and some skin coverage all in one application. Perfect for when you want a more simplified routine. Some of these below are more moisturizing than others and some don’t prime makeup as well, but depending on your needs, these are some great options!

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40

Ilia Super Serum wth SPF40

This SPF is unique as it has the feel of a serum and offers really good coverage, but it melts into skin and dries to a dewy finish. What I love is that they have SO many shades, including darker tones. While I haven’t tested it out in sunny weather extensively yet since we’re just now getting some warm, sunny days, but I have a feeling this will be a favorite for summer when I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup. Find it here.

Babo Botanicals Daily Sheer Tinted Sunscreen with SPF 30

tinted moisturizer with spf

This is another new one and happens to be a great budget pick! Our family loves Babo Botanicals so I was so excited to see them come out with a tinted version too. It’s lightweight but I will say a little goes a long way, in my opinion. It gives light coverage that seems to blend well with any skin tone. Plus, it’s a good budget pick!

WELL PEOPLE Bio Tint Multi-Action Moisturizer with SPF 30

Well People spf

Well PEOPLE’s Bio Tint has pretty good coverage, so you may be able to skip foundation while using it. It dries to a semi-matte finish, which is especially great for more oily skin types. The product is listed as good for all skin types, but I have combo skin and it’s definitely not enough moisture for me on its own. I recommend layering a serum or light face oil under it, otherwise, it may be a little too dry. Once again, oily skin types would probably do well with it on its own. It dries quickly and I can easily layer makeup on top of it and the coverage lasts all day, which is a big plus. They also have great ingredients. This comes in 4 shades.

Suntegrity Impeccable Skin SPF 30

Mineral-based, natural tinted sunscreen

I’ve tried a lot of tinted sunscreens but Suntegrity’s has remained a constant favorite. It’s not too dry or too oily for my combo skin and it spreads on easily. It also gives just the right amount of coverage for me. I usually forgo foundation when I wear this. Makeup layers great over top of it, also. It’s a perfect multi-tasker!

Suntegrity Clear SPF Moisturizing Daily Sunscreen SPF 30

Tinted moisturizer clear spf

This is the newest from Suntegrity! I like this formula a lot because it’s on the drier side, as opposed to some formulas that tend to be more oily. It’s lightweight and the perfect amount of tint to make it blend into skin seamlessly. They also make an untinted one that applies just as well.

Though I clearly have a favorite, I’ve tried a lot of all-natural tinted sunscreens and all 4 of these are perfect options for a clean tinted sunscreen that works. Some honorable mentions: Ayuna Velo is luxe, silky smooth, and has a cult following despite its high price tag. Think Sun is another affordable option but a little goes a long way with this, or else it gets chalky fast.

Untinted Sunscreen:

Le Prunier Plumscreen SPF 31

This is my current favorite face sunscreen! It applies SO well and add beneficial moisture from plum beauty oil. I don’t have any issues with a white cast with this (granted I’m medium fair). It’s a grayish beige color and seems to go invisible upon application. Find it here.

Erin’s Faces Peptide Sunscreen

Holding up sunscreen by pool

This is one of the pricier ones on the list but applies SO well and doubles as effective skincare. Use code MAISONPUR to save on your first order from them.

Babo Botanicals

Babo Botanicals sunscreen

Another great option that’s pretty affordable. No bells or whistles but works well!

Solara

Solara Suncare Time Traveler bottle laying in sand

This brand has really rethought sun care and worked to have innovative formulas. I find this to feel lighter than most when I apply it. Be warned that even the newer versions require a bit of shaking and massaging the tube to keep it mixed together properly.

Suntegrity Untinted

Suntegrity is a great all around brand. Very luxe without being as pricey as others. I do prefer the tinted sunscreen over this, as it requires more rubbing in to reduce the white cast. That said, this is long lasting and I’ve had great luck with it boating and at the beach!

True Botanicals Skin Barrier SPF 30

True Botanicals Skin Barrier

I’m putting this under untinted, though it’s very lightly tinted with the added hint of astaxanthin. So it has just a faint glow to it. This is very long lasting. It has a dewy finish and wears well under makeup. It’s a bit heavier feeling than some on the list, but it’s also very sheer.

Utu Tinted Sunscreen Stiq

Organic Sunscreen Guide

This is a great option for on-the-go! We tested it recently in south Florida and it held up great!
