7 Things For October
It may still be sweltering here in the south, but the calendar says October is here in all of it’s pumpkin glory. This past summer seemed to stretch on for ages for us between the lingering hot weather and our end of summer trips. It’s hard to believe fall is in full swing and soon the holidays will be on the horizon! As we gear up for colder temps and shorter days, here are 7 things for October.
One. Rich Body Butter
As it gets chilly enough to finally turn the heat on at night, your skin will thank you for switching to a richer body butter. Boston-based Organic Bath Co. happens to know a thing or two about how to treat your skin in the cold and their whipped body butters are a cold weather favorite of mine! They just teamed up with AILLEA to launch a new scent: Citrus Lemongrass. A decadent treat for your skin this fall!
Two. Fall Makeup
I always gravitate towards soft, warm colors in the fall and Antonym’s new blush shade perfectly embodies that! Lily is a slightly luminescent, warm and rosy pink color that seems to be universally flattering. It’s long wearing and well pigmented. You can scoop it up here.
Three. Boosting Your Immune System
Is it cold and flu season or just lack of vitamin D season? I know I’ve shared this sentiment from my friend Dr. Courtney Kahla before, but it’s worth recognizing the changes that happen over the colder months that make us more susceptible to illnesses. My friend Janny recently explored this subject even further and wrote an insightful post about all the things they do to naturally boost their immune systems. She included a lot of great tips to help keep you healthy through this fall and winter season. You can read it here.
Four. A Pumpkin Spice Latte without the junk
It’s PSL season and as tempting as a warm, fall beverage may be, the Starbucks version has a whopping amount of sugar and junk ingredients. The Wellness Mama has never steered me wrong and her homemade version turned out to be delicious and healthy! You can catch her easy recipe here.
Five. Pumpkin Face Soap
Pumpkin everything, am I right?? Osmia Organics makes some gorgeous soaps and their Luz Enzyme Facial Soap will get you in the mood for fall. A blend of pumpkin, honey, camellia seed oil, tomato and more, will have your face feeling smooth and clean.
Six. October Beauty Heroes
Beauty Heroes featured a wonderful duo this month that will help keep your skin moisturized and nourished during the colder weeks ahead. The LILFOX Prickly Pear Illuminating Beauty Nectar has a careful blend of some of the best oils and botanicals for your skin, including the prized prickly pear seed oil which is packed with vitamins E and K. The sidekick is their Kalahari Brightening Eye Serum, which also features some knockout ingredients and has a rollerball applicator (which I love!). You can subscribe to get this month’s box here.
Seven. Pink Washing
Just your yearly reminder that every October shelves get flooded with pink products claiming to help find a cure for breast cancer. Meanwhile, the majority of those products are contributing to cancer and many more illnesses in our country. Don’t be fooled by the junk food or toxic lipstick all dressed up in pink ribbons. Instead, use your dollars for good by supporting brands that are creating healthy, nontoxic products.
Happy Fall Everybody!
