Bare Bones Body Care: Only The Essentials
As much as I love those luxury beauty products boasting long lists of magical ingredients, the truth is my skin is pretty sensitive and there are definitely times I need to scale everything back to a simple, basic routine. That’s where Bare Bones Body Care comes in. This skin care line was created after the founder, Monica, had trouble finding products that were truly natural and didn’t include a lot of extra, unnecessary ingredients. The line she created has ingredients that all serve a purpose and nothing extra. Hence the name, Bare Bones Body Care. Don’t you love their name? All of the products are carefully formulated to be effective for even the most sensitive skin and everything is amazingly affordable!
I tried several items from their line and found them all to be simple, effective and helpful in getting my skin back to a calm, even state. Especially when I test new skin care (which I’ve been doing a lot this fall), my skin starts to act up. It breaks out, gets ruddy and generally just looks dull. Using these products with basic ingredients is kind of like a clean sweep, letting my skin do it’s thing and get back to normal. Not only were the face products great, but the deodorant has been a standout for me! So let’s talk specifics on each of the products.
Deodorant
This deodorant is a stick (HOORAY!!). I have some cream deodorants that I love, but nothing beats the easiness of a stick deodorant. This one does a phenomenal job too! I keeps me smelling fresh all day and I’ve also found it does keep me somewhat dry (natural deodorants are not antiperspirants, so you will always have a little more wetness). It’s unscented, which is also a plus for me since I don’t always love the herbal scents that natural deodorants often come in. It glides on easy and absorbs in fast, without leaving you greasy. $8
Facial Cleanser
This cleanser come in an ultra convenient glass bottle with a pump. With just vegetable glycerin, organic rose water and organic tea tree oil, this cleanses skin gently and without stripping it. It’s a little more watery than traditional gel cleansers, but still is easy to use. It also rinses off pretty clean and has a nice fresh scent. $10
Toner
The toner is also in a glass bottle and not only tones skin, but also removes any remaining traces of oil and makeup after cleansing. It’s only ingredients are organic lemon juice and witch hazel, which are both helpful at calming down oil production and keeping pores clean and clear. $10
Face Oil
This face oil continues the trend of minimalistic ingredients and has only hempseed oil, grape seed oil, jojoba oil, palmarosa essential oil, and grapefruit essential oil. I have to admit, I’ve heard about the benefits of hempseed oil, but I’ve never actually tried it prior to this oil. It contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may protect against the aging process while soothing the skin. It’s also supposed to really help with dryness. When I first applied it I was worried it would sit on top of my skin, but with in minutes it fully absorbed in and my skin felt so hydrated! It absorbs better than a lot of face oils I’ve tried. The scent is interesting due to the hempseed oil. It’s not a bad scent at all, and has actually grown on me quite a bit since I’ve started using this. $25
Lip Balm
The lip balms come in a variety of scents, including Bare Balm (which is unscented). I have Bare Balm, Spiced Balm, and Peppermint. I love that the come in easy to use tubes and all the scents are pretty yummy! These are a great gift to convert someone who’s a chapstick addict. $3 each
Since these products contain only the bare basics, they don’t include any additional preservatives other than the preservative properties inherently in some of the ingredients they use. For this reason, the products have about a 6 month shelf life. This is a great unisex line that would be suitable for almost all skin types, in my opinion. Interested in trying it out for yourself? I love Bare Bones! Thank you for covering them! ♥
Hi! Do you know if this brand still exists? I can’t find the products anywhere, and I’m very interested in the cleanser!
It went out of business a few years ago, unfortunately! I missed that I hadn’t updated this post, but I was sad to see them go!
