Your Beauty Questions Answered
I had several questions come in over the last week and I thought it would be fun to share with the whole class. I feel completely unqualified to be giving out advice, but hopefully through the dozens of natural products I’ve tried, I can help!
Question:
“What do you recommend to spot treat acne? I’ve recently stopped taking the pill and my hormones are going crazy! I want to start switching to some organic products.”
Maison Pur:
For spot treatment, there are several effective natural versions. A budget friendly option is Desert Essence’s Blemish Touch Stick. A soothing mixture of essential oils like lavender, calendula, and rosewood are combined with powerful and effective witch hazel and tree tree oil, and together they kick acne’s butt. Cost: $8
Kypris Clearing Serum is my current favorite and what I’ve been using the most for breakouts and just generally congested pores. Like the previous product, this clearing serum has a soothing blend of anti-inflammatory essential oils along with tea tree oil, but for an added punch it uses zinc (which soothes breakouts and balances sebum production) and a host of botanical Alpha Hydroxy Acids to exfoliate and prevent more breakouts. It’s expensive but a little goes a long way. Cost: $55
An honorable mention goes out to mid-priced Osmia Organics Natural Acne Treatment. I can’t fully endorse this because I have never tried it personally, but this is a darling of the green beauty bloggers and gets great reviews. Cost: $22
Question:
“Can you suggest any under eye concealers? I need to buy some but want to go the natural route.”
Maison Pur:
Yes, I have two that I love! The first one has a little heavier coverage than the other one and is my go-to as I need some serious camouflage for my flaws. Studio 78 Paris “Off We Go” concealer offers a matte but blendable coverage and it’s easy to build more coverage, if needed. This works like a charm on my under eye circles! It even has a little mirror for touch ups on the go. Cost: $34
Vapour Organics Illusionist Concealer is my concealer of choice when I’m having a good day and I’m not carrying 20 bags of luggage under my eyes. It is slightly luminous and seriously looks like you’re glowing and have no make up on. I think it would be nearly impossible to ever make this look cakey! It is a little more sheer than The Studio 78 concealer and harder to build up coverage if you need it. Pre-kids (and pre-30’s if we’re all being honest) this would have been my full time concealer.
A few other questions really deserve their own post and I promise I will get working on it. The 3 other topics I was asked about were: cheaper options for switching over to natural products, favorite baby products, and how to get started on going green. I will cover all of these. Thanks for trusting me to dish out advice. xoxo
