Is Your Deodorant Dirty?
Is your deodorant dirty? Not dirty as in there’s dirt in it. Dirty as in it’s full of nasty chemicals that don’t belong on your body (or in your body, which is where they wind up after being applied topically). Eeek!
But going all natural with deodorant is kind of… Scary. If you’re making the switch to natural, chemical-free products, this may be an item that you’re hesitant about. I know I was! But after discovering what actually goes into regular deodorants and antiperspirants, I knew it was important to find a natural deodorant. There’s a great article on it here.
There are a ton of DIY natural deodorant recipes out there, but who really wants to experiment with natural oils and creams only to wind up stinking up your cubicle by 10:00 AM? Not me! The good news is I have tried several brands of natural deodorants and found some that actually work! The best part is, you don’t have to make them. {You just have to buy them}
My most favorite? Enter Lavanila..
This all natural deodorant not only keeps you smelling great but also helps to keep you dry (which normally only an antiperspirant would do). This blend of essential oils and corn starch, along with other ingredients, is by far and away the best natural deodorant that I’ve tried. I love all of the scents and seriously, how beautiful is the packaging? I just love having pretty things in my medicine cabinets and makeup drawers.
My current favorite scent is the Vanilla Grapefruit. It smells fresh and clean- and surprisingly similar to mainstream scents, in my opinion.
I also keep a travel size of the Vanilla scent in my purse for touch ups on the go..
During the summer, I have found that I do need to reapply about mid to late afternoon. During the winter one application can make it the whole day.
A close second was the Weleda Wild Rose. It smells ah-mazing! It’s a good choice to freshen up, but since it doesn’t keep me dry at all Lavanila won out. I still use this from time to time, especially in the summer, just for a quick refresh.
Ready to make the switch? Have you visited Skin Deep (Environmental Working Group)? It is such a great resource to see just what is in your products. They rate products according to how many nasty things are in them. Give it a try and search for your current deodorant!
