March Beauty Heroes

The March Beauty Heroes box has been such an unexpected delight. I knew the products themselves would be lovely, but what I didn’t expect is that using them would bring back an element of self care to my routine that I often rush past. This month’s selection by the Beauty Heroes’ panel of experts is exactly why I love Beauty Heroes so much. They really do such a great job of selecting the very best natural beauty brands. Trust me.. I try a lot of skincare products and yet they still manage to introduce me to amazing brands that I wish I had tried sooner!

Mangosteen Beauty Drops PM

March’s box is all about SkinOwl, a skincare brand founded by Annie Tevelin after she experienced the powerful benefits of mangosteen on a trip to Vietnam. She had been struggling with skin imbalances and acne and was blown away by the results of using mangosteen. After she returned home to Los Angeles, she enrolled in a cosmetic chemistry program in order to pursue creating her wonderful line of skincare products. I was first introduced to SkinOwl by my friend and fellow blogger, Lauren of FreeLoveBeauty.com. She had the chance to meet Annie Tevelin in person and fell in love with the line. SkinOwl has been on my must-try list ever since hearing her rave reviews, so I was incredibly excited when I received the March Beauty Heroes box!

March Beauty Heroes 2

SkinOwl’s Mangosteen Beauty Drops PM is the hero this month, which is perfect in so many ways! Not only does it feature the key ingredient that started it all for SkinOwl, but it fits right along with Beauty Heroes’ motto: Use Less, Love More. This powerhouse product contains only organic, cold-pressed African baobab oil and mangosteen oil. These two simple ingredients are anti-aging, skin clearing, hydrating, calming and brightening. Mangosteen in particular is well known for it’s anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties, which makes it an awesome choice for clearing up your skin. It also protects against free radicals with it’s high amount of antioxidants.

To use it, simply massage 8-10 drops of the Beauty Drops PM onto your face in an upward motion. This is a beauty ritual I have savored since I started using this. At first I thought that 8-10 drops sounded like so much oil, but it’s very light and absorbs in quickly while you’re massaging your face. The smell is amazing. Honestly, I could just breathe it in, which is part of why it’s been such a nice treat for me to massage this in at the end of the day. It’s kind of sweet and almost reminds me of this scented doll I had as a child (I know so random, but doesn’t our sense of smell always conjure up random old memories?). I would definitely say this is good for all skin types, although if you are on the dry side, you may want to apply a second layer.

Beauty Steam

Many times, Beauty Heroes includes a sidekick or a special gift to go along with the hero and this month’s side kick was also all about ritual and self care. They included Skin Owl’s Heroic Helichrysum Beauty Steam in a small sample size and it has me wanting to steam my face all the time now! Truthfully, I hadn’t steamed my face in ages, but this got me all kinds of relaxed. The smell is an herbal-floral scent with a little bit of sweetness and it relaxes all of your senses as you let the steam work it’s magic on your face. My skin felt so nice afterwards that I remembered why I used to love steaming my face so much!

  1. I have tried an am still using my mini version of the Mangosteen pm drops that I picked up at last year’s iBE here in NYC. Speaking with everyone from Skin Owl was such a pleasurable experience. They explained in great depth what each product was for and why. They didn’t try to sell you anything. They simply explained what each product was for and how to possibly use them. And like I said I picked up the mini version that was exclusive to iBE which made it even better. Given the price range of the product it was a great way to try out the product without the worry of losing $ if my skin had a bad reaction to it. I am honestly surprised Skin Owl hasn’t been on everyone’s “it” list since!
