November Beauty Heroes: Biophile Review

Biophile review

The November Beauty Heroes Discovery features a brand that has blown me away. Seriously! It takes a lot for a new skincare line to impress me, but this has gone above and beyond. Beauty Heroes sent the discovery to the ambassadors earlier than usual, so we could really take some time to test the products. I’d never heard of this line and the packaging was rather unassuming, but after I began using it I noticed how different and wonderful this line is right away! After weeks of using it, I’ve had some incredible results. I couldn’t wait to share this month’s discovery and my Biophile review!

About Biophile

First, a little about Biophile. I bet you’ve likely not tried them, yet (or maybe even heard of them!). This is a natural line that is firmly science-based. With a background in biology and beauty, the founders have created a line of sustainable, microbiome-supporting skincare, all based on the transformative powers of fermentation. I truly believe supporting the skin’s microbiome will become the future of skincare. They also incorporate some adaptogens and other superpower ingredients which I’ll go over below in my Biophile review.

My Results

Since I started testing both products at the same time, it’s hard to attribute my results to one in particular. I will say that my skin is glowing, extremely hydrated, smooth, plumped up, almost no breakouts- I could go on and on! Had I known it would change my skin so much, I would have taken before and after pictures. The biggest change I noticed around the end of week 3.

I’ve had 3-4 enlarged oil glands the last few years (so sexy to talk about). Basically, these are overactive oil glands that eventually raise a bit, making a tiny bump with the tell-tale pore opening in the middle. It typically happens to those with oily skin in their 40s or 50s (yay! It’s already happening in my 30s!). I had a dermatologist tell me only prescription retinol would get rid of them, which I’m not 100% against, but I wasn’t ready to jump on that bandwagon just yet. Anyway, as an unexpected result, they’ve begun to shrink pretty dramatically with these products. All are much smaller and one is almost gone.

The Hero

The Root Bionic Refining Essence is NEXT LEVEL. This is a product that has made my skin so hydrated and moisturized. It’s a gel-like serum and though it doesn’t have much of a scent, you can detect a slight earthiness due to the fermented ingredients. It’s designed to improve your skin’s microbiome and keep your skin healthier and more moisturized below the surface.

They start with a fermented stew of medicinal plants, featuring their proprietary Shroom Biotic Broth. This is an adaptogenic tincture which includes Chaga, reishi, and tremella mushrooms, along with amino acids, enzymes, vitamins, peptides, and more. It’s all in an extremely bio-available form. This also includes Niacinamide which I’ve read can have a positive effect on (you guessed it) enlarged oil glands.

This normally retails for $148, making it a fantastic deal in this discovery, though I may cry a bit when I go to repurchase it (which I am definitely doing!).

The Biophile Essence

The Sidekick

The Root Bionic Refining Essence is a 3-in-1 product that exfoliates, hydrates, and preps your skin for the serum. Use it first after cleansing, like a toner, though this does much more than your typical toner. I’ve used this on its own, without the serum, and even then it really amps up my skin’s hydration. It’s much lighter and less viscous than the serum above.

On that note, my only slight beef with this product is the packaging. The pump is super stiff, coupled with the shape of the bottle, I often end up pumping too much or it ends up squirting in a different direction than my palm. Not a deal-breaker, but just a something I would change.

This essence is also supercharged with active ingredients. They included licorice, burdock, and ginger roots extracts, which are fermented into their Roots Biotice Broth. They also added natural acids, willow bark extract, and more. These all work together to keep skin smooth and clear and up your hydration.

This normally retails for $78.

The Biophile oil

Not included in this month’s discovery, but worth mentioning, is the Bio Barrier Oil. You can use your regular moisturizer on top of the essence and serum above to seal in the hydration, but for those who like to stick to the same line, I wanted to mention this. We got to try this along with the discovery products, just so we could have the chance to use a whole routine from Biophile and get to know the line. I used the products above with my own moisturizer for most of the time I tested them, but I started incorporating the Bio Barrier Oil lately.

It uses fermented green tea extract, along with adaptogens, vitamin C, squalane, and glycolipids. This would be the last step for the “plump and seal” effect of Biophile. I do really like this moisturizer, but if you want to stick to your regular moisturizer, the discovery products still work their magic. Just make sure you do moisturize as a final step to seal in the hydration!

You can subscribe here to get this month’s discovery, which is worth over $226, making it quite a deal. Just be sure to sign up before the 20th (or before they sell out) to get the November Discovery. It’s a fantastic time to sign up actually since next month is December and they usually make that the best discovery of the year. I have no idea what it is yet, but I’ve already been told it’s going to be pretty special!
