On My Mind
I have a little of this and that to share today, so I thought another ‘On My Mind’ post would be in order. I’ve got the good, the bad and the ugly on some products, a great summer skin hydrator, and my thoughts on life- Lol, I’ll narrow that down some. First I need to share that I’m moving! While that’s not earth shattering news to anyone, I wanted to explain the slow down in posts lately. It will be over soon, but until we are all moved in, I’m spending every free minute packing, organizing (AKA trying to sneak toys to Good Will), and cleaning out cabinets etc. It’s a harder task than I remember- especially now with two little ones. I have some very excited things coming up soon though (especially if you follow me on Instagram), so hang in there with me!
A couple weekends ago, A Beautiful Pursuit posted an interesting article about what’s really in your wine and they broke down the differences between organic, biodynamic, vegan and sustainable wines. It’s a really interesting read and it made me want to find some good organic and biodynamic options, so I’ve been searching outside of my usual picks for some new faves. So far it’s proved the most challenging to find biodynamic wines but I’ve come across a few. I will definitely report back with what I find!
Speaking of beverages, I came across this recipe for roasted strawberry almond milk last week and I have been drooling over it ever since. Homemade almond milk is delicious as is- add in some roasted strawberries and it sounds divine. Grab yourself some organic almonds and strawberries and head over to MonikaHibbs.com.
A new find for me is Previse Skincare’s Nutrify 1-6, which happens to be an excellent light weight hydrator that’s perfect for summer! I wear a tinted moisturizer during the day, but I like to add a serum or lighter oil under it for some extra moisture normally. But now it’s almost July and a million degrees outside, so my face is melting by midday. This has been perfect to layer on before my tinted moisturizer since absorbs right into your skin and leaves it feeling supple. It’s a little thicker than a toner, but absorbs similarly. Take a look at the ingredients: Aqueous Solution (Water, Saccharide Isomerate, Algae Extract, Chondrus Crispus Whole Plant Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Pichia (Resveratrol Ferment Extract), Bellis Perennis (Daisy) Flower Extract, Leuconostoc (Radish Root Ferment). Simple but all very effective!
There’s a special deal on the Nutrify 1-6 through Beauty Heroes right now. Use code PREVISE when you purchase the Nutrify tonic and you’ll get a Jokipiin Face Wash Cloth for free- The code is good until 7/15. This cloth is so luxurious! It’s made from certified 100% organic long-stem flax and certified 100% organic cotton and does such a great job of giving your skin a gentle polish while really getting your skin clean. It cleans deep into your pores without stripping your skin too. This is a great deal, because normally the cloth is $24.
So more product news: You guys know I’m a huge fan of True Botanicals (formally True Nature Botanicals) and I’ve shared previously about their Night Serum with Retinol, which I love as a gentle exfoliator and night treatment. True Botanicals recently announced that they have reason to believe that all retinol on the market has BHT as a preservative, so they’re discontinuing the product until they can find it from a source that does not contain BHT. I have to say, I applaud them and respect them for being very transparent and above board with the whole thing. I wish more companies would be proactive when stuff like this happens instead of just pretending there wasn’t an issue. So in the meantime, they’re recommending their face serum paired with the Vitamin C treatment, which will have a similar collagen building effect.
I’m pretty bummed because I loved their Night Serum with Retinol, and it will be tough to find a gentle, but effective replacement. Marie Veronique makes a similar gentle retinol, but I’m guessing theirs may have the same issue as True Botanicals. I also really used to love Kypris’s Moonlight Catalyst (which exfoliates in the same way the retinol serum does). It was seriously a HG product for me and my skin felt so smooth and hydrated each morning after using it, but they changed the formula last year and it doesn’t agree with my skin at all now. I break out big time every time I use the new formula, so it’s a no-go for me now. I feel like there’s a hole in my routine, since I like using a serum with those properties at night and all my go-to’s are gone. I’ll keep hunting and in the meantime I’ll be using Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Mask a bit more since it has a similar effect on my skin.
On to iBE– I know I’m like: “I’m going!” “I’m not going!” “I’m going!”, BUT seriously I’m going to the NYC event. It’s been a crazy last few months for us so I wasn’t able to make the LA event and I was thinking the NYC one conflicted with my son’s first week of school, but we are in the clear! I will be there with bells on and hope to meet some of you there. Hope you all have a lovely weekend! xo
