I’ve known about konjac sponges for a while now, but honestly, I wasn’t quite sure what it was or why I needed to be using one to cleanse my face. Finally, I decided to jump on the band wagon a couple months ago, but only after I learned a little more about what it was exactly. If you’re wondering what exactly it is too, then I’ll fill you in. It is actually made from the konjac root plant. The brand I’ve been trying is PureSol and they make their’s by steaming the edible fibers to make a soft, very gentle sponge. So no chemicals are used in processing, it’s 100% natural. It’s kind of crazy when you use one to think it used to be a plant. It seriously just feels like the softest sponge ever.
Despite it’s gentle touch, it does a great job of exfoliating and refining your skin. Konjac sponges are fantastic for deep cleaning your pores and detoxing your skin. You can use it with a cleanser or just on it’s own. I’m hooked on them now! I love how my skin feels when I’ve been cleansing with one regularly. They come dry and slightly shriveled up, but plump up as soon as you expose them to water.
PureSol infuses some of their sponges with activated charcoal and some others with turmeric (they also have an original version, without anything added). This was the first brand that I saw carrying a version to use on your body. It’s bigger than the facial sponge and is wavy on one side. I was so excited to try the Turmeric body sponge since I’m slightly obsessed with anything that has turmeric in it. It’s so good for you and for your skin! If you have oily/problematic skin then the activated charcoal sponge is for you. The original face sponge is good for all skin types, even sensitive. The facial sponges are only $10 and the body sponges are around $12 right now on Amazon. To preserve the sponge’s lifespan, it’s important to let your konjac sponge dry completely after use, so Puresol includes a hook with a suction cup so you can hang it up to dry.
