The Super Couple With Super Powers

Sometimes you see something and you know you have to try it. A while back, BeauTeaBar posted a photo of Maya Chia’s The Super Couple on Instagram and the bright coral color plus the little blurb about astaxanthin had me immediately intrigued. It sounded pretty amazing, plus Marissa (the founder of BeauTeaBar) has a knack for finding the best natural beauty products before most people have even heard about them. Add in the chic packaging and this had my name all over it. By now, you know I’m pretty loyal to using face oil- it gives you the most concentrated benefits that the ingredients have to offer and doesn’t usually contain fillers or preservatives. I do have to admit, however, that with all the face oils out there now, I’ve become a bit of a skeptic. I find myself immediately questioning how this or that face oil stacks up to some of my favorites or what’s so different about this oil that sets it apart from the others? Some quick research revealed that one of The Super Couple’s star ingredients brings a lot to the table beyond it’s bright, vibrant color.

Astaxanthin is something I hadn’t heard of prior to coming across this product, but after reading up on it, I’m not sure why its not talked about more! It’s a naturally-occurring carotenoid in things like shrimp, lobsters, algae and even flamingos that get their color from eating astaxanthin rich foods like shrimp. It’s been dubbed the ‘king of carotenoids’ and ‘nature’s strongest antioxidant’ by a lot of health communities and according to Maya Chia, studies have shown it to be 65 times stronger than vitamin C in fighting against free radicals. That’s pretty incredible considering free radicals can be responsible for aging the skin and irregular cell growth that can lead to cancer. The other star ingredient, chia seed oil, is one that my skin knows and loves. Chia seed oil is rich omega fatty acids, antioxidants and minerals. It’s very hydrating and in my experience one of the best oils to give you that dewy glow without leaving you greasy. Together the astaxanthin and chia seed oil moisturize, lighten dark spots, protect against damage and inflammation and also improve skin’s texture.

After using this for 5 weeks, I have to say how impressed I am. I’ve used a lot of high end face oils and this one has probably won me over the quickest. It definitely delivers in the hydration department and is one of the few oils that I’ve tried that sinks right into my skin without leaving a greasy layer. I can even use it under my tinted sunscreen in the morning without it making me get oily throughout the day. The bright coral color gives your skin an instant glow and the oil itself is barely noticeable after you press it into your skin. I don’t know that I’ve used it long enough to see miraculous results, but I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in my skin’s texture. I have some fine lines starting around my eye area which have all been softened by this and overall my skin feels softer and smoother. My skin is combo and tends to be more dry in the winter (and it was still a little cold out when I started trying this), and I’m pretty sensitive. This has done so well with my skin, but it’s actually suitable for all skin types. Also, you all know I’m picky about how my products smell and this has the loveliest, light scent. It sounds a little cheesy, but I actually look forward to applying this!

For a high quality face oil, the price isn’t too bad. Especially considering the results. The Super Couple gets a high recommendation from me!
