7 Things For January

Happy New Year! While some are making resolutions and thinking about hitting the gym, we’re still in full Christmas break mode over here. The kids have a couple of days before they go back to school and we still have a few things left to check off the break to-do list like go ice skating and see the new Mary Poppins movie. In the meantime, the new month is upon us, so here are 7 things for January.

7 Things for January

One.

I have a lot of readers who are Beauty Heroes fans, so first things first: January Beauty Heroes! This month features a new-to-me brand, Jane Scrivner. The Hero is the Nourishing Cleanser cleansing balm, along with 2 fluffy mitts that feel like the softest washcloths. The Sidekick is the beautiful OO Cream. I can’t wait to share my thoughts on the products after I’ve had a little more time to get to know them this month! You can check out the box here.

Two.

Pure Light. I talk a lot about indoor air quality and if you’ve been around here long enough, you know how I feel about conventional candles. From the petroleum-based wax adding to your indoor air pollution to the fake fragrance, it’s one of the worst offenders you can bring into your home. I recently discovered Pure Light candles from Aillea and love the look and the scents. They’re 100% organic coconut wax, so no petroleum by-products here! They have several scents to choose from, but so far I’m really liking Sunshine.

Three.

If you’re a red wine drinker, I’ve found a product you’ll love- especially after the holidays. Dr. Brite Stain Be Gone for wine drinkers is all natural and whitens just as good as non-natural products. Like a lot of whitening products, it has a hydrogen peroxide-based formula, but without all the added junk. I’ve already noticed a difference in just a few days time. The pen form has taken some getting used to for me, but I think I have the hang of it now. The trick is to really take your time and make sure you’ve thoroughly applied it to each tooth. You can find it here on Amazon.

Four.

Another hit from Beauty Heroes! This set from Ayuna is a limited edition box and I have to say, these may be some of the most unique skincare products I’ve come across. It’s called The Facial and it comes in either high or low strength. This set includes both so that you can start with the low strength and work your way up to the high strength. The products are very liquidy (almost like a toner) but leave skin matte and smooth. I’m a big fan of Ayuna and this new launch from them has not disappointed. The first time I used The Facial (the low strength, at that) my skin immediately started exfoliating to the extent that anytime I touched my face, little rolls of skin were falling off, almost as if I’d used a grommage. Crazy, right? Ayuna is undoubtedly a high-end skincare line, so this discovery is a great chance to try them at a more reasonable price. The set is $79 and BH members get an extra 15% off. You can buy it here.

Five.

Have you ever taken a detox bath? How about your kids? They’ve been shown to strengthen your immune system, help regulate enzymes, relax muscles and add some much-needed magnesium into your body. January is a great time to incorporate a hot detox bath and give your immune system a good boost! All you need is Epsom Salt or magnesium flakes, hot bath water (or for kids, as warm as they feel comfortable with) and 20 minutes to soak. Warmer water helps the magnesium absorb into your body and studies have shown our bodies absorb magnesium topically more effectively than when it’s consumed. If your water isn’t filtered, consider using vitamin c powder (either ascorbic acid or sodium ascorbate), like this one, which will neutralize the chlorine in the water.

Six.

If you’re thinking about jump-starting some healthier eating habits this month, then let me share one of the recipe blogs I love! Paleorunningmomma.com shares lots of healthy, whole-food recipes and even some sweets that will hit the spot without adding carbs. To be clear- We’re not Paleo. In fact, we mostly eat vegetarian! But we do eat lots of whole foods like fruits and veggies and we try to avoid processed food, so I always find great meal ideas on her site. For the next month, she’ll be sharing Whole30 recipes, so it’s a great place to get some inspiration.

matcha

Seven.

Matcha! I love matcha and this time of year I crave warm drinks, so you can find me whipping up delicious matcha lattes in the afternoon. The purest, very best tasting matcha that I’ve come across is Encha. I wrote a review on them last year, but they’re still at the top of my list and a delicious way to pack in some antioxidants during the colder months.

One last thing- If you didn’t get everything on your list this Christmas, The Detox Market is having a sale today and tomorrow. Here are the details:

  • 10% off any order over $75
  • 15% off any order over $150
  • 15% off any order over $250 + get FREE full-size Odacité Po + R Hydration Serum ($42 value)
  • Offer valid from Tuesday, January 1st to Wednesday, January 2nd.

Cheers to a happy and healthy new year!
