Playing Favorites: My Top Face Oil Picks

I’m a face oil convert. It took me a while to get there, but the results of good quality face oils finally won me over. In fact, I have several face oil favorites at this point! The key is finding the right oil for your skin type. I’ve got my top favorites listed below and they all work great for my combo (sometimes drier in the winter) skin, but also all seem like they’d do equally as well on other skin types as well. None of these leave your face greasy or feeling like an oil slick.

Top Face Oil Picks

Been on the fence about switching to a face oil or wondering what it does differently? There’s a bit of a misconception over the terms hydrating and moisturizing when it comes to skincare. Hydra = water, so lotions and serums that have hyaluronic acids, humectants, etc. can help pull water into your skin to hydrate it.

On the other hand, oils and balms add moisture to the top layer of skin. So for dry skin, it’s possible use a face oil and still have your face feel dehydrated (just with a nice layer of oil on top). This is why I didn’t love oils the first several times I tried them. My skin just didn’t feel as moisturized as it did with a lotion, but I quickly learned that layering a hydrating serum underneath makes the oil work even better than a cream or lotion since the oil seals in the hydrating layer below. No more waking up to dry skin. The oil keeps the hydration intact. Plus, face oils tend to have purer ingredients and less fillers than face lotions, so more bang for your buck!

My Top Face Oil Picks

Agent Nateur Holi(oil)

Worth The Money

This has been a favorite for the better part of a year because of how effective it is. It’s elegant and has a beautiful scent! Agent Nateur goes above and beyond with sourcing ingredients and the products really shine because of it. Holi Oil is designed to be anti-aging, but also works well to even out skin, calm inflammation and fade hyperpigmentation. I love how well it absorbs in and how not greasy it is. It always leaves my skin feeling smooth and moisturized.

Khus+Khus Sans Age Oil

Heaven in a bottle. The blue-green oil is very soothing a works wonders for irritated or easily inflamed skin and aging skin. I love the feel of this oil and the ingredient list is stacked with all-stars. Like Holi Oil above, it absorbs in well without leaving any greasiness behind. It has such a pretty, soothing scent. Also, the bottle is way bigger than most face oils and lasts a long time!

Maya Chia Supercritical Omega-3 Chia Face Oil

Top Face Oil Picks

I’ve had a long time appreciation for both this oil from Maya Chia and for their The Super Couple oil. The type of chia oil they use has a magical ability to melt into your skin and become one with it. It deeply moisturizes but doesn’t feel heavy at all. The Supercritical Omega-3 Chia Face Oil is good for all skin types and priced really well for a quality face oil.

Laurel Whole Plant Organics Antioxidant Face Serum

I’m so intrigued by the innovative ways Laurel sources ingredients. They focus on working with local farmers to grow what they’ll need and the results are plants picked at the perfect time and being delivered fresh and super potent! This face oil seems thicker at first, but somehow sinks right in and really moisturizes your skin. From the vibrant color, to the earthy scent, you can tell it’s packed with potent, active ingredients.

Some favorite serums to layer under oils are this one from Live Botanical (use code MAISONPUR to save $) and this from Agent Nateur. I also adore Josh Rosebrook’s Vital Balm Cream, which feels like a cream but is truly more of a whipped balm. It’s wonderful for when I feel like my skin just needs a bit more moisture. Happy Moisturizing!
