Disposable Diapers For Your Eco-Savvy Bebe
Cloth or disposable? It’s a question that a lot of green product mamas ask themselves. For me, eco-friendly disposable diapers made the most sense. After testing many over the last 3 1/2 years, I have 2 clear winners. Please keep in mind that diapers fit each baby very differently and that can impact leaks and blowouts.
One of my favorites is Bamboo Nature. These diapers are the real deal! They fit very similar to Pampers and perform like Pampers. No leaks or blowouts and they also keep baby extremely dry. These diapers are soft and I actually like the minimalistic design of just plain white with a little design on the waistband.
None of the yucky chemicals in regular disposable diapers are found here. As listed on their site, there’s no phthalates, organotins (MBT, DBT, TBT), heavy metals, Cl (chlorine), HCHO (formaldehyde), colophonium, AZO-pigments, PVC, substances known as harmful to health or the environment, known allergens, substances classified as locally irritating, sensitizing, carcinogenic or mutagenic have been added during the production of the raw material or used during production of the finished product.
They also don’t include any perfume or lotions (things that name brand diapers often contain, and can result in allergic reaction and increased diaper rash). You can read more about their ingredients here. They have also earned the Nordic Swan Eco Label for eco safety and sustainability.
You can order directly through their site, but I found the cheapest way was to add them to my subscribe and save on Amazon. If you’re a member of Amazon Mom and subscribe to at least 5 products each month, you get 20% off making these $55.96 for 180 of size 2 diapers ($0.31/diaper). Regular price is $69.95 for the same size pack.
You can order a sample pack from their site. Sizing is a bit weird so I highly recommend ordering some sample sizes first!
My other favorite is a complete shocker…. Kidding! Who doesn’t love The Honest Co. diapers?
They’ve knocked it out of the park with their adorable designs and convenient subscription service. What won me over was the ease of the diaper bundle with the included wipes. The diapers perform and so do the wipes. The diapers fit similar to Huggies and have an elasticized waistband in the back. They are soft and come in some amazing prints! **UPDATE: Honest Co. has had some issues with some of their products, but I still believe their diapers are very safe, especially compared to conventional brands.
These diapers are free of chlorine processing, latex, lotions, fragrances, common allergens, phthalates, optical brighteners, PVC, heavy metals, organotins (MBT, DBT, TBT) & harsh petrochemical additives (as listed on their site).
The cheapest way to order is through a bundle subscription but Target just started carrying them, in case you’re noncommittal. You can also order a sample from their site. If you bundle them the cost is $79.95 for a pack of 240 size 2 diapers plus four packs of wipes. You can save $30 off your first bundle here.
Happy Diapering!
