Hair: The Quick Fixers
Confession: I’m really good at doing my nails, pretty good with makeup, but I have no freaking clue when it comes to my hair. For years I bleached it blonde and ran a flat iron through it and called it a day. As you can imagine, that caught up with me and my hair became a fried mess. So back to my dark brunette roots I went. Since then it’s been dyed, highlighted, Ombred, and everything in-between. More recently, I’ve been rocking that French girl un-done look. Minimal effort, cool girl factor… Except, as I looked back at pictures of this last year or two I realized it was kind of more homeless person than French girl. I’ve been washing it at night and letting it air dry and then brushing it out in the morning. Very healthy for my hair (no heat styling) but not so good for looking put together. So, I’ve been pulling out some of my favorite quick-fix styling products and making a concerted effort to do something (anything!) with my hair everyday so I can look a little bit more sane!
I love a good Dry Shampoo! Such a time saver and a volume booster. I’ve tried a few and my favorites are One Love Organics Healthy Locks and Terra Tribe Dry Shampoo for Dark Hair. Healthy locks is slightly more absorbent but I have to brush it out a little more to hide the white powder so when I’m extra lazy I just use the Tribe.
One Love Organics Healthy Locks– $12
Terra Tribe Dry Shampoo for Dark Hair-$11.06
John Masters Organics Sea Mist is such a no brainer for those who already have a bit of texture to their hair. My hair isn’t quite straight or wavy but when I let it air dry it veers more to the wavy side. A spritz of this and I have instant beachy, textured waves. A nice, easy look for summer especially.
John Masters Sea Mist-$16.50
What I reach for the most is my Josh Rosebrook hairspray! I did a full review here and yes, I still have that crazy after-baby hair poking through. I have pretty thick hair and after both pregnancies I lost a ton of hair and then had to deal with the dreaded regrowth! I stopped nursing Annabelle in April last year causing yet another round of hair loss and I still have quite a bit of weird length hair on my part that sticks up. This works like charm to hold my fly-aways down. On top of that, the days I get fancy and use my curling wand, this holds my hair in place ALL day. I heard through the grapevine he’s coming out with a new product- I hope it’s a volumizer!
Since I let my hair air dry, I comb it out after I shower so it will dry relatively kink-free. Out of desperation one evening, I grabbed my daughter’s Honest Conditioning Detangling Spray. I was actually really impressed! It’s one thing to go through her fine baby hair (although it’s getting long!) but I was doubtful it’d make a difference in my thick tangled mess. It leaves my hair easy to comb through and softer. I ordered another to keep in my bathroom and now use it every time I wash my hair. It’s also good the next day if I just need a bit more moisture in my hair.
Honest Conditioning Detangling Spray– $5.95
I’ll leave you with a funny quote:
I’m not offended by all the dumb-blonde jokes because I know that I’m not dumb. I also know I’m not blonde. ~Dolly Parton
I can definitely relate! I am also guilty of neglecting my hair. I’ll have to take a look at these lovely picks!
It’s hard when the makeup is fun right? My hair is more of an after thought. Hopefully, some of these products will help you too! Thanks for reading xo
