Before we go any further, can I just say how crazy it is that it’s already May! Is it just me? I feel like this year has been going by lightening quick. In any case, the good part about it being May is what’s inside the May Beauty Heroes box. This month featured a brand that already has quite a cult following and comes straight from the tropical paradise known as Hawaii. Mahalo Skincare is the featured brand this month and the box happened to feature 2 of their newer products that quickly became a hit with many fans. The products not only feature stellar ingredients, but they’re also made with care by the husband/wife team of Maryna and Mark Kracht. and you can read more about them here.

Mahalo Beauty Heroes

Mahalo is a Hawaiian word meaning thanks, gratitude, admiration, praise, esteem, regards, or respects and the perfect name for a brand that has set out to provide eco chic indulgences for your skin (as they describe). They work hard to source organic ingredients and use locally produces ingredients whenever possible. You also may have noticed the packaging happens to be very eco-chic as well! The custom made bamboo covered jars are not only unique and very eco friendly, but they all happen to have the product name and a hawaiian island etched into the container. So cool, right? So back to this month’s Beauty Heroes box-  The hero is (drum roll please…) The Rare Indigo Balm which is such a pretty color, I might add, and the sidekick is The Petal which is a pink face mask. Both products work nicely together and give you a good feel for what this brand is like.

The Rare Indigo

Rare Indigo

This balm lives up to it’s name with a very unique and pretty shade of indigo-voilet. This balm was designed to be very soothing for your skin and actually calm down any type of inflammation. It also nourishes skin with deep hydration that’s long lasting. It’s packed with beneficial ingredients that not only calm and hydrate, but also brighten your skin, clear up breakouts and have anti-aging properties. A little goes a long way with this balm and it’s much easier to apply if you let it warm up in your fingers for a moment. The scent is strong, but is meant to be relaxing with a careful blend of vanilla, helichrysum, ylang ylang, lavender, hibiscus, and more. Here’s a full list of ingredients.

cannabis sativa (hemp)*, astrocaryum murumuru*, orbignya oleifera (babassu)*, sclerocarya birrea (marula), vitis vinifera (grape seed)*, camellia japonica (tsubaki tea seed)*, aleurites moloccans (kukui)*, euterpe oleracea (acai)*, proprietary infusion of organic herbs*, polygonum tinctorium (indigo), rosa damascena (rose otto)*, matricaria chamomilla*, achillea millefolium (yarrow)*, helichrysum italicum*, citrus aurantium var. bergamia (bergamot fcf)*, lavandula angustifolia (lavender)*, boswellia carteri (frankincense)*, abelmoschus moschatus (ambrette hibiscus), cananga odorata (ylang ylang)* ,ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10), daucus carota (carrot seed)*, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (vitamin C ester), non-gmo mixed tocopherols, vanilla planifolia, iris pallida

The Petal Mask

The Petal

The sidekick also happens to boast a very pretty color being a soft shade of pink. This mask was made to brighten, hydrate and smooth skin- aka it gives you that GLOW.. A gentle mix of Beta-Hydroxy with enzymes, nutrients, Amazonian white clay, and hyaluronic acid work to smooth your skin, clear your complexion and add in some deep moisture. This mask is premixed and easy to apply with either your fingers or a mask brush and you can leave it on for between 10 & 20 minutes. I always prefer to mask before I shower- I just feel like it’s so easy to rinse it off that way, but it also works well to just wipe it off with a warm wash cloth. I found this product also had a strong scent, but like the balm, it’s meant to be therapeutic. It has a scent that combines notes of rose, vanilla, jasmine and ylang ylang. Here’s the full list of ingredients.

raw honey blend* [mel (Hawaiian honey), leptospermum scoparium mel 15+ (manuka honey)], rosa damascena (rose hydrosol)*, amazonian white clay, sodium hyaluronate, rosa damascena (rose flowers)*, camellia japonica*, laminaria (algae)*, silver hydrosol, sclerotium gum, rose clay, rosa damascena (rose oil), jasminum officinale (jasmine)*, calendula officinalis (calendula)*, artemisia pallens (davana), cananga odorata (ylang ylang)*, citrus aurantium var. bergamia (bergamot fcf)*, rosa centifolia (rose de mai)*, hibiscus sabdariffa (hibiscus)*, pelargonium graveolens (rose geranium)*, theobroma cacao (cocao absolute), vanilla planifolia (vanilla), santalum paniculatum (hawaiian sandalwood)*, curcuma longa (turmeric)*, lithospermum erythrochizon (gromwell), salix alba (white willow)*, cedrus atlantica (cedarwood atlas)*, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (vitamin C ester)
